Understanding Your First and Second Chiropractic Visits

Starting something new, especially when it comes to your health, can bring a mix of curiosity, hope, and maybe even a few questions. At Santé Chiropractic & Wellness Centre in Orléans-Ottawa, we believe that supporting our patients starts with clarity, education, and empowerment from the very beginning.

If you have wondered what to expect first chiropractic visit, this blog will walk you through your first and second appointments and explain how these steps build a strong foundation for your personalized care.

Day 1: A Deep Dive into Your Health

Your first visit is all about getting to know you. We call this our New Patient Evaluation, and it is where we begin an in-depth assessment of your current state of health and how your nervous system is functioning.

Results from a Core Score Test

1. Comprehensive Health History
We start by reviewing your complete health history. Think of this as telling the story of your body. Past injuries, current symptoms, stress levels, and lifestyle habits all play a role. Everything your body has experienced contributes to how you feel today. Our goal is to uncover root causes, not simply manage symptoms.

At Santé Chiropractic & Wellness Centre, we take the time to ask meaningful questions and truly listen. This is not just about filling out a form. It is about understanding you as a whole person.

2. Neurological and Chiropractic Exam
After reviewing your history, we perform a series of physical assessments. This includes postural checks, range of motion testing, orthopedic and neurological evaluations, and other measures to evaluate how your spine and nervous system are working together.

Here is where our approach stands out. We use advanced technology to look deeper.

3. Nervous System Scans – The CoreScore Advantage
At Santé Chiropractic & Wellness Centre in Orléans-Ottawa, we do not guess, we test. One of the most valuable tools we use during your first chiropractic visit is the CoreScore, a set of advanced, non-invasive scans that offer a detailed look at how your nervous system is functioning.

The CoreScore is made up of three key tests:

  • Surface Electromyography (sEMG): Measures the activity and balance of the muscles along your spine to identify areas of tension or overcompensation.
  • Thermal Scan: Assesses the balance of your autonomic nervous system by measuring temperature variations along your spine. This can reveal how well your body regulates vital functions such as digestion, immunity, and organ health.
  • Heart Rate Variability (HRV): Evaluates how your body adapts to stress. A strong HRV reading reflects resilience and recovery, while a lower one may suggest strain on the nervous system.

Together, these three scans create a CoreScore out of 100, giving you a simple nervous system report card. A higher score means better adaptability and function, while a lower score indicates areas that need support. We explain your results in clear language so you know exactly what is happening and how chiropractic care can help.

4. Digital X-Rays (If Needed)
Depending on your scans and exam findings, we may recommend spinal X-rays. These allow us to assess spinal alignment, disc health, and postural changes more closely.

We only suggest imaging when it is necessary to ensure your care is safe and targeted. When X-rays are taken, they help us create a more precise, customized care plan based on your spine’s unique structure.

At the end of your first chiropractic visit, you leave feeling heard, supported, and informed. Before you go, we schedule your second appointment, where we review your results in detail and begin your personalized care journey.

Day 2: Report of Findings and First Adjustment

Your second visit is where everything comes together. We review your results, discuss your care plan, and begin care that supports your long-term health.

1. Visual Report of Findings
By your second appointment, our team at Santé Chiropractic & Wellness Centre has reviewed your full health history, CoreScore scans, and any X-rays that were taken. During your Report of Findings, we go over everything step by step so you understand the reasons behind how you are feeling.

You receive a visual, easy-to-understand report outlining:

  • What is going on with your spine and nervous system
  • What your CoreScore reveals about your health and healing
  • How stress may be affecting your adaptability
  • Where nerve interference may be occurring
  • What your X-rays show about posture, alignment, and spinal health

This is often an “ah-ha” moment for patients. It is validating to see the clear connection between how you feel and what is happening internally. From there, we create a personalized chiropractic care plan based on your goals, health needs, and lifestyle.

2. Your First Chiropractic Adjustment
Once you have reviewed your results and asked questions, you receive your first chiropractic adjustment. Our adjustments are gentle, precise, and customized for your body. The goal is to correct spinal misalignments that interfere with your nervous system’s ability to communicate effectively with the rest of your body.

Some patients feel immediate relief or increased mobility, while others experience gradual improvement as the nervous system adapts and heals. Everyone’s experience is unique, and we honour that.

As Dr. Nathalie shares in her book Fired Up & Feeling Great, “Chiropractic care does not fix symptoms, it supports the body in doing what it is designed to do: heal, regulate, and adapt.”

3. Your Path Forward
Before you leave, we walk you through what comes next:

  • How often we recommend visits
  • What we will be tracking, such as future CoreScore results
  • Tips to support your progress at home
  • Lifestyle habits that enhance your results, including posture, stress management, and movement

Our goal is to make sure you feel confident and supported at every step.
