If you or someone you know suffers from Arthritis then you understand just how debilitating this disease can be.

Arthritis is a systemic disease (the whole body) that dramatically affects the joints.  There may be as many as 100 different conditions using the term “arthritis”, many of them formerly known as rheumatism.
The most common arthritis of all is Osteoarthritis, a degenerative joint disease.  If you are over the age of 50 then likely you have a touch of it.  Many people have no symptoms at all, others may feel some pain and still others are incapacitated by it!  Osteoarthritis is often the result of stress on the joints that can occur when there is an unbalanced spine and structural system.  In order to deal with this excess stress, your body will actual grow extra bone material in the joints.  Sometimes this extra bone may compress nerves that can cause pain and start affecting internal organs.

Rheumatoid Arthritis can appear suddenly and disappear as suddenly, usually appearing around ages 30 to 40.  It is unclear as to what the cause is, but it actually destroys joints!  It can affect the heart, blood vessels, eyes, skin, muscles and other organs that can cause fatigue, weight loss and acute pain.  It is believed by many researchers that Rheumatoid Arthritis is an autoimmune disease that will cause the body to attack itself.  It is believed that Childhood vaccination has contributed to the cause of both Rheumatoid Arthritis and Juvenile Rheumatoid Arthritis.*

So What Can We Do To Find Relief From Arthritis Pain?

Subluxation1The Orthodox Medical Approach

There is no medicine that can offer a cure to arthritis, only help symptoms.  This will likely mean a lifetime of drugs for pain and inflammation.  Temporary relief may also include the use of heat, hot packs or exercises in warm water.  If the deterioration of the joint is severe then surgery may be considered.  Long-term use of any medication come with a variety of side effects, depending on what drug you are taking, which can include: stomach irritation bleeding and ulcers, kidney damage, hemorrhage of the esophagus, thinning and weakening of bones, skin rashes or mouth ulcers.

The Chiropractic Approach

Chiropractic is a system of healthcare that can improve the function of the body by removing and releasing subluxations (blockages from your spine and structural system).  When there are subluxations in the body it can weaken your nervous system and your immune system, essentially affecting your entire body.  When our systems are not performing their best it allows for sickness and disease to exist, including arthritis.

How Do We Get Subluxations and What Does It Have To Do With Arthritis?

Subluxations are often caused by stress.  This can include poor posture, accidents, sitting or standing for prolonged periods of time, even emotional stress can cause us to be “off”.  Sometimes an event or accident in our childhood can cause us to suffer later on as an adult.  As adults we may develop symptoms or disease as a result of unhelped subluxations as children.  Subluxations do not always present themselves with symptoms initially.  Sometimes it can be years before we experience any signs or problems. For this reason many of us walk around with subluxations in our spines, completely unaware of the issues until we begin to experience pain or health issues.

A Doctor of Chiropractic can assess your spine physically with their hands, through x-rays if necessary and at Sante Chiropractic and Wellness Centre we use Insight Subluxation Station to assess and evaluate your specific chiropractic needs.  The purpose of a chiropractor is to enhance your health by eliminating subluxations.  When our spines are functioning properly it allows our bodies and our minds to function better and heal better.

We shouldn’t wait for our bodies to need healing before seeking out a chiropractor.  We should use chiropractic care to maintain and enhance our health, to perform better at sports, for natural immunity and of course a drug-free lifestyle.

If you are tired of being sick, or tired of being told that you just have to live with it and you want a natural method of regaining your health I suggest you give chiropractic care a try.  Why would you want to live with health problems when you can live without them?
