Fibromyalgia

Do you feel like every drop of energy is drained from your body and most days you just hurt, well, all over?

Do you find yourself hesitant to make plans with friends as you can never predict how you will feel on any given day?

Perhaps even after numerous tests with your medical doctor and even specialists, they all say, “We can’t find anything wrong”?

You are far from alone. According to Statistics Canada, “It is estimated that fibromyalgia affects 900,000 Canadians, or approximately 3% of the population. Women are estimated to be four to nine times more likely to develop the disease than men.” (https://www150.statcan.gc.ca/n1/pub/82-619-m/2006003/4144159-eng.htm). But the sad fact is most of them have been told they’re crazy, lazy, or just depressed–often resulting in remaining undiagnosed for years, or for some, even decades. Many sufferers feel like they have been everywhere, tried everything and are still left suffering, unsure of what to do next.

What Is Fibromyalgia?

Fibromyalgia (FMS) is characterized as a chronic pain and fatigue disorder. Less commonly known fibromyalgia symptoms can include cognitive difficulties like memory and paying attention, sleep difficulties, headaches, numbness in the extremities, sensitivity to light and sound, stomach issues such as IBS, and restless leg syndrome. The chronic inflammation and lack of proper rest can make you susceptible to other diseases like carpal tunnel syndrome and immune system problems. It is often brought on by physical, emotional or mental trauma and can be difficult to diagnose as it shares symptoms with many other disorders. There are no tests like bloodwork to run to diagnose this disorder so the process typically involves ruling out other diagnoses and then determining if they have the trigger points congruent with fibromyalgia.

FMS causes soft tissue inflammation. Luckily, unlike similar disorders like rheumatoid arthritis, it does not cause permanent damage to your joints, though you may still feel pain and stiffness affecting your joints and surrounding areas.

There is Hope for Fibromyalgia Sufferers!

Fibromyalgia is a cyclical kind of disorder. You don’t have the energy or pain relief to do the things you need to do in order to regain energy and pain relief, so the cycle spirals forward and usually, downward. With the help of chiropractic care, and a plan specialized for your unique needs, you can work toward the proper function of the spine and restore the communication between your brain and your body.

Have you been told there is no cure and that you should go on heavy medication right away to try and ease at least some of your symptoms? It does not have to be this way. Ignoring your symptoms can lead to additional and worsening symptoms, limited capacity to do your day to day duties and in some cases, depression. There are a number of sustainable, natural remedies to help in managing your pain and exhaustion on a day to day basis, and effectively lessen the symptoms your body experiences.

Imagine how great you could feel without your constant fatigue and nagging pains. Imagine waking up each morning, jumping out of bed, and enjoying the day; no more waking up and feeling like you got hit by a truck. Imagine not having to take handfuls of pain pills that haven’t helped and can have their own set of negative side effects. You CAN have hope again. Chiropractic can be your answer and set you on the path to proper alignment and mobility that allows your body to take care of itself the way it was built to.
