It is estimated that between 3 to 5 percent of children have ADHD. This means that in a classroom of 25 to 30 children, it is likely that at least one will struggle with symptoms.

Symptoms of ADHD and learning disorders are generally categorized into three groups.
- Inattention: Meaning the child might procrastinate, not complete tasks like homework or chores, and often make careless mistakes.
- Hyperactivity: Common characteristics of hyperactivity include fidgeting or squirming while seated; getting up frequently to walk or run around (even when not appropriate), and talking excessively.
- Impulsivity: Those with impulsivity issues may be impatient, have a hard time waiting their turn, frequently interrupt or intrude on others, or start conversations at inappropriate times.
How is ADHD Treated?
In most cases, psychiatric drugs like Ritalin are given to children to treat their symptoms. However, according to Peter Breggin, MD, these drugs are dangerous.
Ritalin can cause drug-induced behavioral disorders, psychosis, mania, drug abuse, permanent neurological ticks, and addiction. Other side effects include loss of appetite, dizziness blurred vision, nervousness, and more.
Drugs given to hyperactive children frequently cause the same problems. Leaving many parents asking, “Is there any other way?”
How to Manage ADHD Naturally
For decades, clinicians and chiropractors have reported on the effectiveness of chiropractic care for children with many kinds of neurological conditions including ADHD, hyperactivity, dyslexia, and other behavioral problems.
One case study done by Bastecki and colleagues assessed a five-year-old boy with ADHD. The boy, with difficult behavior and facial tics, was on Ritalin, Adderall and Haldol for three years.
Within eight weeks of chiropractic care the boy’s facial tics were resolved and his behavior dramatically improved. His pediatrician said he no longer exhibited ADHD symptoms.
Studies like the one mentioned above, demonstrate that chiropractic can be an effective tool for those suffering with neurological disorders.
How Chiropractic Helps
When the spine becomes misaligned, the nerves that exit the spine in the area of the misalignment are often affected. Spinal misalignments can happen as the result of a fall, accident, or injury. They can also happen during the birthing process when a baby’s head and neck are twisted.
Believe it or not, chiropractors are the only health professional trained to address spinal misalignments. By performing spinal adjustments, chiropractors ensure that the brain waves and nervous system are able to communicate effectively, improving brain function and often reducing symptoms commonly associated with ADHD, hyperactivity and learning disorders.
